Manchester City’s Recent Champions League Form

Manchester City have remained regular contenders in the Champions League, although their recent campaigns have been less successful. Their biggest achievement came in 2022/23, when City finally lifted the trophy for the first time. They defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the final to complete a historic Treble.

The following season saw City reach the quarter-finals, where Real Madrid eliminated them on penalties after a 4-4 aggregate draw.

City then struggled during the 2024/25 campaign, finishing in the knockout phase play-offs. Real Madrid eventually ended their run after a 6-3 aggregate victory.

Their 2025/26 campaign brought another disappointing early exit. City reached the Round of 16 but were again drawn against Real Madrid. Despite winning 2-1 in Madrid during the first leg, City lost the second leg 2-1 and exited 5-1 on aggregate.

With their Champions League pedigree and a squad packed with European experience, City will be hoping to rediscover their best form. Their ultimate aim will be to challenge for another Champions League final and a second European crown.

AEK Athens’ Recent Champions League Form

AEK Athens have endured a lengthy wait between appearances in the Champions League. Their most recent previous campaign came in 2018/19, when they competed in the group stage.

However, AEK have continued to build European experience across other competitions. During 2025/26, they reached the Conference League quarter-finals, where Rayo Vallecano ended their run.

That European campaign followed a strong domestic season, with AEK finishing top of the Greek Super League and earning Champions League qualification.

Their 2026/27 Champions League campaign has now begun in the qualifying rounds. AEK recorded one win and one draw during the play-off stage, according to UEFA’s competition record.

AEK will now be hoping to make their return to Europe’s elite competition count. Their previous Champions League experience includes a quarter-final appearance in the 1968/69 European Cup, their best-ever run in the competition.
