Manchester United’s Recent Champions League Form

Manchester United’s recent Champions League record has been inconsistent compared with their historic European success. In 2021/22, United reached the round of 16, where Atlético Madrid eliminated them 2-1 on aggregate.

However, United missed out on Champions League football in 2022/23, competing in the Europa League instead. They reached the quarter-finals before losing to Sevilla.

United returned to the Champions League in 2023/24, but their campaign ended during the group stage. They finished fourth after winning just one of their six matches.

Their recent struggles contrast with a much stronger European history. United have reached the Champions League final five times, winning three titles in 1968, 1999 and 2008.

The club’s most recent final appearance came in 2011, when Barcelona defeated United at Wembley. They will now hope their return to the Champions League can reignite memories of those successful European campaigns.

RB Leipzig’s Recent Champions League Form

RB Leipzig have established themselves as regular Champions League competitors, although their recent European campaigns have been inconsistent. Their best run came in 2019/20, when they reached the semi-finals before losing to Paris Saint-Germain.

Leipzig then reached the round of 16 in both 2022/23 and 2023/24. However, their 2023/24 campaign ended against Real Madrid, who progressed after a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Their 2024/25 Champions League campaign proved much more difficult. Leipzig won just one of their eight League Phase matches and finished 32nd, missing out on the knockout stages.

Leipzig subsequently missed European football altogether during 2025/26. However, they bounced back strongly under Ole Werner, finishing third in the Bundesliga with 65 points.

Consequently, Leipzig return to the 2026/27 Champions League League Phase with an opportunity to rediscover their best European form. Their previous semi-final run proves they can compete with Europe’s elite.
